The painting gracing our blog is called “The School of Athens” by Raphael. In this painting the artist depicts the many Greek philosophers discussing philosophical problems and opinions with one another. So too at this site we hope to gather many voices to discuss the issues of our day and all days.
Our title, Examined Lives, is a reference to the famous statement of Socrates during his trial: “the unexamined life is not worth living”. We hope to cover literature, politics, movies, religion, and more on the blog. And it is certainly a “we” as there will be six individuals who will bring their thoughts and ideas forward for the benefit of themselves and any who care to read them.
The subtitle is from a movie called “The Emperor’s Club”. It is an exhortation for our readers to join in our discussion for both our, and their, edification.
Thank you for visiting our site.
